Christmas Time
Christmas is a time for parties and hanging out with friends. The only problem is I always eat too much and wish I hadn't later. I know I need to get in bed early tonight but that probably won't happen.
Just five more days until Christmas break. The children at school are so excited it's hard for them to focus. The kindergarten children are especially excited, and have been sharing with me some things they have written in letters to Santa. They have assured me Santa is real, and they think I probably should write my letter before it's too late. I'm going to do that right now.

Reading Opportunities

It's Saturday night and I'm looking forward to next week. I'll be reading Tired of My Bath at the Statesville YMCA on Monday, Wadesboro Library on Thursday, and Mocksville under the oaks on Saturday from 11:00-12:00. It's a busy week and hopefully one where I'll get to share my book with many children. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of my new book, Tired of School. It's the second adventure for John Allen and his dog Louie.

Spencer Library

I had a wonderful time at the Spencer Library reading my book, Tired of My Bath. The children were well behaved and attentive. After listening to the book being read, the children then played games, followed by refreshments of cookies and punch. Before the afternoon ended, each child chose a character from the book to have painted on their face. Most picked Louie, the dog.
I'll be at the Statesville YMCA on Monday July 25th. I can't wait to share my book with a new group of children.

My Grandson

I'm having a wonderful day with my six month old grandson. He's so cute. I know, every grandparent thinks that, but in this case it's really true. He's gone down for a mid-morning nap, so I have a few minutes to write my thoughts. It's hard to believe six months has passed, but already the little fellow is developing quite a personality. His mom and dad spend a lot of time with him and it shows. I'm proud of them and proud my grandson will be taught Christian values. I just wish my dad, his great-grandpa, could be here to see him, but then again maybe he does.

I had a wonderful time at the Farmer's Day Celebration in China Grove. I read my book, Tired of My Bath, to the children, and shared information about my next book, Tired of School, which should be out by late August. A tent was set up next to Corner Books and More for not only the reading of my books, but also for a magic act. The Magic Act was Burns and Co. from Clemmons, NC. Later I took a walk down mainstreet to check-out the vendors. The smell of popcorn, hamburger, and corn dogs filled the air. I saw many friends and stopped to chat. Even the weather co-operated, it wasn't too hot or too cool.

I attended a writer's workshop today at weatherscreek farm, Cleveland, NC. The speaker was Jeff Elder, a former syndicated columnist, and an expert on social media. As a result of the workshop, I now have a twitter account. I am excited about where this might lead, as I am the author of two children's books, Tired of My Bath, and Tired of School. These books are written in rhythm and rhyme; appropriate for emerging and reluctant readers. Tired of My Bath is now available on amazon.com and barnes and noble. Tired of School should be released in August.

Friday Afternoon

It's Friday afternoon and my husband and I just got back from eating pizza. I spent the morning with my daughter and grandson, Carson, shopping for a pack and play. I'll start keeping him one day a week this month. Carson is five months old and so cute. He's now blowing bubbles.
The next few weeks are going to be busy with reading my book, Tired of My Bath. I am excited to share this book with children.

Writing about Bees

I have spent the last few days interviewing people in our community about bee keeping. I am fascinated with this subject and the more I learn the more I realize I don't know. One thing I do know is that we all need to take care of the bees because they are our food source. Even if you don't have a hive, there are still simple things to do to help the bee population. One thing is to let dandelions and clover grow naturally. How easy is that?
Before I left the bee keepers home, I was given a whole jar of honey. I've already had some on a piece of bread and man was it good. I, in turn, gave them one of my children's books, "Tired of My Bath." I received the author's copy of my second book, "Tired of School," yesterday in the mail. I'm excited about seeing it in the book stores soon. It was a great day.

It's midnight and I'm still up writing. I don't know why, but it seems like some kind of force is directing my thoughts and ideas. I know that God has a plan for my life, but sometimes I forget to listen.
I've been busy with several writing projects in the last few days. One of those is putting the finishing touches on my new book, Tired of School. This book is the second in the John Allen series. I'll have the opportunity to read my first book, Tired of My Bath, at some local events in the next few months. During this process, it's important I remember to take one day at a time and one step at a time. That's a hard concept when it comes to promoting a book. Come to think of it, that's a hard concept anytime.

Hello everyone. I am in Blowing Rock on vacation and had a wonderful time this week. I had the privilege of reading my book, Tired of My Bath, at the Wataugua Library and also at Chetola Resorts. The children enjoyed the story and especially liked the song.
I can't believe the week has passed so fast and tomorrow we'll be going home. It's a joy coming to the mountains of North Carolina. My husband especially likes it here because it's cooler. I like it not only because of the beauty of the mountains, but also because of the interesting people. I can't wait to come back next year.

I just read Hope Clark's blog about how we need to market our books no matter if we self publish or publish traditionally. I don't have a problem with that but the problem for me is knowing how to market on line. It's easy to walk into a store and promote a book if you believe in that product. But, for me, not understanding all the details and specifics of multi-media is a little overwhelming.
I just wrote a children's book titled, Tired of My Bath. It is about a little boy who doesn't want to take a bath. He smells so bad the next morning even the dog is hiding under the bed. It is a good book to teach hygiene in schools because it is funny. It also is a good book for emerging readers,
and it is available now on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. You can also find it on my link dicymcculloughbooks.com
